In May 2025, a client from the Western region of Ukraine announced a tender for the supply and installation of a paint and drying booth for large-scale defense equipment. TWEKO participated and won the tender. The project’s goal was to create a reliable system for painting and drying oversized elements while adhering to safety standards. A unique feature of the solution is the pass-through type booth with heating from the central heating system’s heat carrier to reduce energy costs and integration of an automatic fire suppression system. More about solutions for defense equipment.
About the Client
The client is an enterprise in the Western region specializing in the repair and maintenance of large-scale defense equipment. To ensure high-quality coating application in limited space and with strict safety requirements, a specialized paint booth was needed. TWEKO’s solution optimizes repair processes, improves coating quality, and ensures reliable equipment operation. To buy a spray booth for similar tasks, contact TWEKO. Industrial paint booths from TWEKO provide professional coating with ventilation and filters tailored for efficiency.
Project Objectives
- Creation of a pass-through paint and drying booth with internal dimensions of at least 9000 × 4000 × 4500 mm for working with large equipment.
- Integration of a heating system from the central heating heat carrier to reduce energy costs and maintain temperatures of 20–25°C.
- Provision of supply and exhaust ventilation with a capacity of at least 27000 m³/h, air speed of 0.3 m/s, and purification level of 91–99.95%.
- Installation of 4-leaf swing gates sized at least 3800 × 4500 mm and service doors for personnel with explosion-proof design in accordance with GOST 12.1.010-76 and GOST 12.1.004-91.
- Integration of an automatic fire suppression and alarm system to ensure safety in specialized production conditions.
- Additionally: Consideration of paint booth ventilation principles for optimal air circulation and energy savings.
Solution from TWEKO
TWEKO implemented a customized solution based on the IKFS Diagonal model KFS.000.00.00-ENERGY, series IKFS-D-P-10, adapted for special-purpose equipment. The project was delivered turnkey with full equipment, including filter frames, air ducts, technical compartments, and control panel. Spray booths from TWEKO are professional equipment for applying coatings, ideal for industrial needs like paint booth with water curtain or dry filter options.
Booth Design: Frame-bearing enclosure made of 80 mm sandwich panels (galvanized steel, mineral wool insulation, foam for gates due to urgency). Overall dimensions — 9300 × 7800 × 5300 mm, working area — 9000 × 4000 × 4500 mm. Pass-through type with diagonal airflow for optimal logistics. Gates — 4-leaf swing (3800 × 4500 mm) with profiled seal, bolt locks, and guides. Floor — concrete with metal plates temporarily removed for booth installation and reinstated afterward. Integrated operator room (operator stand 600 × 280 × 980 mm), personnel doors (2 pcs., 80 mm wide), ventilation units.
Thermal Ventilation Group: Units located on the side of the booth, heating from water heat carrier via calorifier and mixing unit. Ventilation capacity — 27000 m³/h with explosion-proof motors. Vortex heat exchanger provides temperatures: painting — 16–24°C, drying — 20–80°C. Installed three manual dampers (900 × 300 × 160 mm, 900 × 400 × 160 mm, 1000 × 600 × 160 mm) with busbars (P=30 mm). Air ducts (22 units) with brackets and straight exhaust (500 mm).
Filtration System: Two-stage: preliminary (91–92%, pocket filters 1050 × 440 × 250 mm, 2 pcs.), main (99.95%, ceiling filters 1600 × 2000 mm, 6 pcs.), post-chamber (94% pigment, cardboard filters 2000 × 1000 mm, 4 pcs., fiberglass 2000 × 1000 mm, 4 pcs.). Activated carbon used for additional purification.
Lighting and Safety: Explosion-proof corner LED fixtures T8 (1200 mm, 4 × 18 W, 12 pcs.) for illumination ≥900 lux. Integrated automatic fire alarm and suppression system. Safety system blocks compressed air supply in the absence of voltage (pneumatics kit). Added emergency exits, input cover for control panel water protection, gutters over air ducts for rainwater drainage.
Control System: Control panel (2 pcs., one in the exhaust cabinet) for ventilation and temperature control. Power — 16 kW, voltage 380 V, 50 Hz.
Additional Elements: Flat floor without channels, mounting angles, profiles, cover strips (130 × 130 mm), cable trays, fastener kit, penofol for insulation. Mounting ties with ±10 mm accuracy for foundation.
Implementation Process
The project was completed within 90 calendar days — from tender victory to fully operational solution. Works were divided into several key stages:
Receiving the Request and Tender Victory.
In March–May 2025, TWEKO received the request, participated in the tender, and won.
Analysis and Design.
During discussions with the client, details on floor construction, heating system, and gates were clarified. Decisions included water heating from central heating and four-leaf swing gates. After site visit, booth dimensions were adjusted, and visualization with placement plan was prepared for approval.
Equipment Manufacturing.
Nodes and assemblies were developed and manufactured: exhaust cabinets, air ducts, thermal ventilation unit, calorifier, ceiling elements, and gates. Laser cutting production was involved for certain parts to speed up the process. By the end of May, the booth assembly drawing was ready.
Installation and Commissioning.
In June, equipment was delivered to the site and the booth installed. An automatic fire suppression system was additionally integrated. Early July was dedicated to finalizing details and completing installation works. On July 9, 2025, the project was successfully handed over with signed acts, training, and full technical documentation package in English with electrical diagrams.
