TWEKO designed and implemented an outdoor spray booth for SE «Ukroboronservis» (Kyiv, Ukraine) in July 2009. The booth, intended for applying and drying coatings on military-technical products, was installed in an open space and equipped with a unique transportation system and a winter operation mode.
About the Client
State Enterprise «Ukroboronservis», located in Kyiv, specializes in the production, repair, and maintenance of military equipment and armaments. The enterprise plays a key role in ensuring Ukraine’s defense capabilities, adhering to high standards of quality and safety. To achieve high-quality coating application on large-scale products, the enterprise required a spray booth designed for outdoor operation. TWEKO offers customized solutions for the military-industrial complex. Find out how to purchase a spray booth for your production!
Project Objectives
The goal of the project was to create an outdoor spray booth for applying and drying coatings on military-technical products in open-air conditions. The main requirements included:
- Design of a spray booth with internal dimensions of 9×4.5×3.5 m, suitable for outdoor operation.
- Ensuring a stable microclimate under various weather conditions, including winter periods.
- Effective removal of paint mist using a filtration system.
- Integration of a non-standard transportation system for rotating products in front of the door opening.
- Ensuring operator safety and structural reliability in open-space conditions.
TWEKO’s Solution: Outdoor Spray Booth
TWEKO developed a customized outdoor spray booth, delivered as a turnkey solution. The booth, with internal dimensions of 9×4.5×3.5 m, was designed as an autonomous structure with a gable roof. Key components of the solution:
- Booth Construction. The cabin is made of durable steel panels with enhanced insulation, ensuring resistance to rain, wind, and temperature fluctuations. The gable roof with a drainage system protects the working area from precipitation. The door assembly with an upper sliding roller optimizes access to the booth, considering the limited door opening size.
- Thermo-Ventilation Unit. Located on the side of the booth, it includes supply and exhaust ventilation with a diesel burner for heating air up to 60°C. A vortex heat exchanger ensures energy efficiency, and the winter operation mode enables seamless transitions between seasons with automatic diesel fuel supply in cold weather.
- Transportation System. A non-standard transportation system allows for rotating the product in front of the door opening, ensuring its passage into the booth’s limited dimensions. This solution optimizes the logistics of handling large-scale products.
- Filtration System. Two-stage filtration with activated carbon and ceiling filters ensures air purity and compliance with environmental standards of the military-technical industry.
- Control System. The control panel with automation regulates temperature, ventilation, and air recirculation, adapting the booth for year-round operation.
The set was complemented by ceiling filter frames with mounting elements and filter material for uninterrupted operation. TWEKO delivered the project as a turnkey solution, including design, construction work, booth manufacturing, and transportation system.
Implementation Process
The request from SE «Ukroboronservis» was received in January 2009. TWEKO conducted an analysis of open-space conditions, considering climatic factors (temperature fluctuations, precipitation, wind) and requirements for processing military-technical products.
After site measurements, a project for an outdoor spray booth was developed, adapted for year-round operation. The project included an autonomous structure with a gable roof, a non-standard transportation system, and a winter operation mode.
- Manufacturing of the steel booth structure with a gable roof and a door assembly with an upper sliding roller.
- Installation of supply and exhaust ventilation with a diesel burner and winter mode for year-round operation.
- Integration of a non-standard transportation system for rotating products in front of the door opening.
- Equipping the booth with two-stage filtration and lighting.
TWEKO provided a complete set of project documentation, including drawings for the foundation, booth structure, and transportation system. Component manufacturing took place from February to June 2009. Installation and commissioning were completed in July 2009, ensuring the booth’s operation on schedule. The booth has been operating reliably for over 12 years.
Results for the Client
- Stable microclimate in the booth under any weather conditions due to the winter mode and diesel burner.
- Effective paint mist removal with two-stage filtration using activated carbon.
- Optimized logistics due to the non-standard transportation system with product rotation.
- Comfortable and safe working conditions due to explosion-proof lighting and a fire suppression system.
- Reliable structure adapted for year-round outdoor operation, with protection from precipitation and wind.
Client Feedback
Conclusion
The project for SE «Ukroboronservis», implemented in July 2009, demonstrated TWEKO’s expertise in developing outdoor spray booth systems for the military-technical industry. The booth, adapted for open-space operation, ensures high coating quality, safety, and production efficiency.
Outdoor Spray Booths for Defense Equipment
The booth developed for SE «Ukroboronservis» is an example of a customized solution based on the IKFS series — industrial spray booths for large-scale products. These systems create a stable microclimate necessary for applying coatings on military equipment, railway wagons, or freight structures. The system includes energy-efficient supply and exhaust ventilation, two-stage filtration with activated carbon, a vortex heat exchanger, and automatic fire safety — all ensuring high coating quality, uninterrupted operation, and low operating costs. The solution implemented for «Ukroboronservis» proves that TWEKO’s booths perform effectively even in challenging open-space conditions, including winter mode.
