Blastrooms are specialized chambers designed for cleaning, preparing, and treating surfaces of various materials using abrasive particles. Let’s find out more about their areas of application, principles of operation, main types and features, and where to buy them favourably.

Scope of application of blastrooms

Blastrooms are widely used in a wide range of industries. They are used to clean, prepare and treat surfaces. Let’s take a look at a few key applications:

  • Metalworking. Shot blasting effectively removes rust, scale and old paint coatings from metal structures and parts. It is an important stage of surface preparation before applying a new coating or welding.
  • Automotive industry. Chambers are used to clean car bodies, engine parts and other components. This helps prepare surfaces for painting and applying protective coatings.
  • Shipbuilding. In this industry, abrasive blast booths are used to prepare the hull of ships before painting and to remove marine pollution and corrosion.
  • Aerospace industry. The chambers are used for cleaning and preparation of aluminium and composite materials, which is essential for the durability and safety of aerospace equipment.
  • Construction. Blastrooms help in the treatment of concrete and metal structures, ensuring their durability and resistance to external influences.
  • Production of pipes and tanks. The chambers are used for internal and external cleaning of pipes, tanks and reservoirs, which is particularly important to prevent corrosion and increase the service life of the equipment.

Blastrooms are indispensable wherever surfaces of various materials require careful and high-quality treatment.

Working principle of a shot blasting machine

The shot blasting machine works on the principle of mechanical surface treatment with abrasive particles (shot), which are ejected at high speed. The process can be divided into several stages:

  1. Loading an object. The object to be cleaned or processed is placed inside the chamber. Depending on the design of the chamber, this can be a manual or automated process.
  2. Abrasive preparation. The shot used in the process is poured into a special hopper. The abrasive particles are made of different materials such as steel, cast iron, glass or ceramics.
  3. Starting up the machine. When the machine is switched on, abrasive particles are fed into the working area via an ejection system consisting of blades or an air stream. These particles are accelerated to high speeds by centrifugal wheels or compressed air.
  4. Blasting process. High-speed abrasive particles strike the surface of an object, removing rust, scale, old coatings and other contaminants.
  5. Collection and filtration of spent abrasive. After the blows, the abrasive particles and removed contaminants enter the collection system. Here the shot is separated from the waste and filtered. Drum separators used at this stage can be purchased from us.
  6. Dust removal and ventilation. The work process generates a lot of dust and fine particles, which are removed through the filtration and ventilation system, ensuring a clean and safe working environment.
  7. Unloading of the processed object. Once the process is complete, the object is removed from the chamber. It is now ready for further processing steps such as painting or welding.

Shot blasting machines allow you to achieve a uniform and high quality surface finish and ensure high productivity and labour efficiency.

Main types of blast machines and their features

There are several types of blast machines, each with its own features and designed for specific tasks. Let’s consider the main types:

  • Manual blastrooms. The operator manually controls the blasting process with a gun feeding abrasive material. The chamber is equipped with a lighting and ventilation system.
  • Automatic blastrooms. The equipment is fully automated. Parts are moved through a transport system and the cleaning process is controlled by software.
  • Drum blast machines. The blast cabinet has a rotating drum inside which the parts to be blasted are located. The abrasive material falls on the rotating parts, ensuring uniform blasting.
  • Conveyor blast systems. The system consists of a conveyor that moves parts through a blast chamber. The blasting is continuous, which increases productivity.
  • Tunnel blast machines. The design is a tunnel through which the parts to be blasted pass. Inside the tunnel are shot blast wheels that direct the abrasive stream onto the parts.

Each of these types of blast machines has its own advantages and is optimised for specific applications, allowing you to choose the most efficient solution for your specific production.
